WAYCROSS, GA.- The College of Central Florida men's basketball team couldn't overcome a rough first half in a 78-63 loss to South Georgia State.
The Patriots (7-3) trailed 41-23 at halftime and were outrebounded on the night by 10 in the road loss.
CF was unable to capitalize on a tremendous effort from guard Terrell Rogers, who scored a season-high 30 points in the loss. Rogers made 10-of-20 shots from the floor, including a 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Miguel Reyes added 12 points for the Patriots in the defeat.
CF committed 25 turnovers and made just 40 percent of its shots, as SGSC was able to get away with allowing it to make 10-of-26 from 3-point range.
The Patriots allowed 48 percent shooting to SGCSC in the loss.
For SGSC, two players finished with double-doubles, as Cody Helgeland (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Demontrez Austin (15 points, 13 rebounds) were tough inside.
Leading the way for the SGSC was Jovante Spivey, who scored 26 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Daniel Peace dished out 11 assists in the win for SGSC.
The loss left CF with a 3-1 record this season against teams from Georgia and dropped it to 1-1 on its swing through the Peach State.
So far this season, CF is 3-2 on neutral courts outside of Florida and 3-1 against FCSAA member schools.
CF will return to action on Tuesday night with a visit to Hillsborough Community College. The Patriots won the first meeting with the Hawks by three in Ocala and are 6-0 against HCC over the past three-plus seasons.
