OCALA-- The College of Central Florida men's basketball team is honoring military veterans on November 14.
Free admission for veterans, who will be honored at halftime of the Patriots' game against Hillsborough Community College. Tip-off time is at 8 p.m.
The veteran's night game will be preceded by the CF women's basketball team facing Miami Dade College at 6 p.m.
The Patriots started off the season with a 3-0 record for the first time since 2010-2011, before a tough road loss to Tallahassee Community Colllege.
Despite the loss, CF has gained the attention across the state, as it began the season ranked for the first time in four years.
Leading the way for the Patriots has been 6-foot-2 freshman Thais Oliveira, a standout from Brazil. In four games, Oliveira has averaged 20.5 points per game and had a monster 22-point, 16-rebound, five-block effort in a win over Indian River State.
On Saturday, CF's women will host St. Petersburg at 6 p.m., followed by the CF men facing Eastern Florida State at 8 p.m. in a battle of state tournament teams from a year ago.
The Titans, coached by Jeremy Shuman, were one of the top shooting 3-point teams in the history of the FCSAA last season, but fell in the opening round of the state tournament to Polk State.
This is the first meeting between CF and EFS (when it was then known as Brevard Community College) since the Patriots downed the Titans in the 2013 state championship game in Marianna on their way to winning the NJCAA National Championship.
