OCALA-- Gulf Coast State College women's basketball rolled to a 75-56 win over Northwest Florida State College to claim the NJCAA Region 8 women's basketball championship.
For the Commodores (28-1), the nation's top-ranked team, it was their first Region 8 title since 2013.
Gulf Coast rallied from down nine points in the first half and knocked off NWFS for the fourth time this season.
The Commodores outscored the Raiders 45-28 after halftime.
Kristina King (26 points, 11 rebounds) earned tournament MVP honors for Gulf Coast.
Amanda Paschal (12 points), Audrey Caron-Goudreau (12 points, seven rebounds) and Maria Morales-Castro (10 points, 10 rebounds) also were named to the all-tournament team for the Commodores.
Shami Goodman (16 points), Brittney Snowden (10 points, eight rebounds) and Bride Kennedy-Hopoate (10 points) led the way for the Raiders.
Both Gulf Coast and Northwest Florida State earned automatic bids to the Region 8 Tournament in Lubbock, Tex.
The Raiders, who upset nationally-ranked Daytona State (No. 2) and Chipola (No. 6) to get to the finals, advance as the Region 8 Zone Qualifier.
