Zach Bove enters his sixth season as the assistant baseball coach at his alma mater, College of Central Florida. Bove was the infield and hitting coach the first two sesaons before transitioning to the Patriots' pitching coach.
As the pitching coach, Bove has been instrumental in the development of the Patriots' pitching staff including Mike Cetta (24th round – Diamondbacks) and Boomer Biegalski, Friday night starter for Florida State University and current ACC Baseball Tournament MVP, who was drafted in the 14th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft. In his three years as the Patriots' pitching coach, Bove has moved on 14 of his pitchers to the Div. I and II levels.
This past season, Bove helped develop one of the top pitching staffs in the state with Cooper Wallace and David Lebron serving as a tough one-two punch for opponents. Lebron, a University of Tampa signee, finished Top 3 in the state for most strike outs (94) and Top 5 for lowest earned run average. Wallace, who signed with Flagler College, finished tied for second for most wins in a season.
In 2014, Bove helped lead the Patriots to a No. 3 overall finish in the state tournament, losing to eventual NJCAA national runner-up Miami Dade in the FCSAA state semifinals. Star freshman pitcher Boomer Biegalski, a Florida State University signee, finished No. 1 in the state and second in the nation for most strike outs in a season (116).
Bove played for current Patriot head coach Marty Smith from 2006-08 where he was an all-conference performer. He helped lead his team to a Mid-Florida Conference title and state runner-up finish in 2007.
The Mid-Florida Conference Defensive Player of the Year then went on to play his final two years at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. Bove led the team in hitting each of his two seasons and was the first Saints player to be named Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week. He was nominated as a team captain his senior season.
Bove began his coaching career as an assistant under former major league pitcher Alan Mills at Kathleen High School in Lakeland, Fla. He was also an assistant coach in the Florida Collegiate Summer League.
Last summer, Bove was a head coach in the JUCO Summer League where he led his team to a championship title. He also coached the Marion County Hammers. Zach has been an instructor at many college summer camps around the country including UF and Clemson.
Bove received his Bachelors in Sport Management from Flagler College and his Master’s Degree from the University of Missouri. He resides in Ocala, Fla. with his wife, Kristina.
