The College of Central Florida Patriots defeated the State College of Florida Manatees 5-4 in walkoff fashion Wednesday afternoon at Goodlett Field. Tre Hondras singled in Matthew Cedarburg with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap another comeback win for the Pats. The Patriots raised their record to 7-1 and are currently ranked #1 in the NJCAA Region 8. Hondras was awarded the Player of the Week for Region 8 on Tuesday and backed up the award with another multiple hit and multiple RBI game. Head Coach Marty Smith said "Tre came through again as he has done all year."

Shawn Guilliams (UF Commit) was the starting pitcher for the Patriots throwing four innings, giving up only one hit and striking out six batters. The one hit was a two-run home run by Richard Rodriguez. The Pats pitching and defense was a little shaky in the fifth inning when two hit batters, an error and a passed ball led to State College of Florida (2-5) building up a 4-1 lead. But the Patriots bounced back in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the score at four when Jackson Taylor and Nicholas Calero scored on a wild pitch and Miguel Useche hit a sacrifice fly to drive home Carlos Gonzalez.

Francisco Mateo kept the Manatees at bay by throwing 1.2 innings in relief giving up only one hit, no runs and striking out four. Closer, Evan Michelson (2-0) relieved Mateo with two outs in the eighth inning and two runners on base. Michelson struck out Jack Anderson to end the threat. Michelson tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn his second win of the season.

Coach Smith stated after the game, "We were sloppy on defense but made some big pitches when we had to and hung close. Evan Michelson was ridiculously good for the win in relief."

The Patriots continue their four game homestand with a game on Friday against the South Florida State College Panthers. First pitch is at 1:00 PM.
