The College of Central Florida Patriots were on the wrong end of a walk off win as Lake Sumter State College's Ian Thornton singled with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth inning to win it for the Lake Hawks, 8-7. The loss snapped the Patriots (25-6, 4-1) winning streak of 12 games.
After a back and forth first couple of innings the Pats scored three times in the fifth inning to take a 7-5 lead. Nick Calero singled home Jackson Taylor, who had doubled. Matt Cedarburg then hit a two-run home run to left field. The HR was Cedarburg's sixth of the season. Miguel Useche led the Pats with three hits on the day while Kyler Hultgren, Taylor, and Calero each had two hits.
Lake Sumter (15-12, 5-3) started their comeback when Alber Mogollon hit his fourth HR of the season leading off the fifth inning to make it 7-6. The game was tied up at 7-7 after an error by the Pats.
Lake Hawks relief pitchers, Nick Grice and Evan Loeser shutdown the CF offense throwing 5.2 shutout innings allowing only two hits and striking out six. Loeser was credited with the win to improve to 2-1. Troy Britts took the loss falling to 1-1.
Head Coach Marty Smith after the game said; "Hats off to the Lake Sumter bullpen, they did their job. We also need to play better, especially on the road."
Game three of the series will be played on Monday at the College of Central Florida campus with a 2:00 PM start.
