Wild Walkoff Win for Pats

The College of Central Florida Patriots (19-5, 1-0) started off the the first game of Mid-Florida Conference play with back to back home runs and held off a late Daytona State College (10-4, 0-1) rally for a 10-9 win.

Matt Cedarburg and Miguel Useche both went deep to right field leading off the bottom of the first inning to give the Pats a 2-1 lead. Cedarburg added an RBI single in the second inning to build the lead to 4-1. The Falcons fought back to make it 4-3 when Mason Neller singled home Kyle Abbott in the fourth inning.

Nicolas Calero tripled in the sixth inning scoring Cedarburg to push the lead to 6-3. Daytona would not go away as they scored twice in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Spencer Rich and and RBI single by Carter Page to make it a 6-5 game.

The Pats scored three runs in the eighth to build a 9-5 lead when the Falcons pitching and defense got a little sloppy.

The Falcons' Bobby Sparling led off the top of the ninth inning with a home run off of Troy Britts. Daytona tied the score at 9-9 when Page hit a sharp line drive off of Britts' arm for an RBI single. Logan Clayton (2-1) relieved Britts and secured the third out of the inning to earn the win.

The Patriots rallied in the bottom of the ninth to walk it off when Edrick Felix was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on Cedarburg's third hit of the game and scored on a wild pitch.

Shawn Guilliams started on the mound for the Pats going five innings, giving up three runs and striking out eleven batters.

Head Coach Marty Smith said; "I was glad to see our bats come alive in the ninth inning and pull out a tough win."

CF will travel to Daytona State College on Wednesday for a 2:00 PM.
