The College of Central Florida Patriots ran their winning streak to five games on Saturday when they defeated the ASA College Silver Storm, 11-3. The Patriots, 18-5 for the season, had been sputtering some in mid-February when they lost four of seven games. The current streak has come at an opportune time as Mid-Florida Conference games begin Monday, March 1st with a 2:00 PM home game against Daytona State College.
The Patriots were down 1-0 when they erupted for eight runs in the second inning. The big hits of the inning were a two-run double by Jackson Taylor and a three-run home run by Garett Wallace, his third HR of the season. Wallace ran his hitting streak to five games. In those five games Wallace also collected seven RBIs and scored seven runs. When asked what has led to his recent success Wallace said "I was putting too much pressure on myself earlier in the season. I am more relaxed at the plate now and that has really helped."
Kyle Lacalameto started for the Pats and went a scheduled 3 innings giving up only one run, one hit and striking out three. Lacalameto raised his record to 2-0. The Pats used a total of five pitchers in the game as Riley Huge (2 IP), Seth Baugh (2 IP), Alfredo Caraballo (1 IP) and Troy Britts (1 IP) combined for nine strikeouts in relief.
