In a battle of top ten teams in NJCAA Region 8 #2 College of Central Florida (16-5) defeated #10 St. Petersburg College, 5-2 at Jack Russell Memorial Stadium in Clearwater.
CF was down by two when Kyler Hultgren drove home the Pats first run of the game in the fourth inning when he doubled home JC Mendez, who had tripled. CF tied the game 2-2 in the fifth inning on a Kevin Kilpatrick sacrifice fly which scored Nicholas Calero.
The Pats took the lead for good 4-2 when pinch hitter Garrett Wallace's single to left scored Calero and Miguel Useche. Hultgren's blast to right field in the 8th made the final score 5-2. Hultgren finished the game going 3 for 4, with a double, HR and two RBIs. Hultgren on his big day; "I could feel the energy from our dugout today and that really helped me during my at bats."
Parker Seay relieved starter Logan Adams and snuffed out a Titan rally by striking out Gabriel Rincones. Ben Chestnutt (2-0) picked up the win throwing 3.2 innings allowing 0 runs, 4 hits and striking out 3. Chestnutt stated; "I had the change up working all day today. It kept the hitters off balance." Troy Britts struck out Christian Rivera to end the game and pick up his first save of the season.The Patriots return home to Goodlett Field on Friday against Tallahassee Community College. The game features the top two active winningest head coaches in the state of Florida, CF's Marty Smith and TCC's Mike McLeod. First pitch is 2:00 PM.
