OCALA-- The College of Central Florida baseball team defeated Warner University JV 6-3 on a blistery cold day at Goodlett Field on Wednesday afternoon. CF improves to 3-1 on the season with the win. 

Warner got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning off a fielder's choice. Patriots responded with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the frame. Freshman third baseman Andre James capitalized on a Royal error to tie the game, and a batter later, returner Zach West ripped a double into right field to score Carlos Salaverria and take the lead.

The Patriots held a slim 4-3 lead after six complete innings. In the bottom of the seventh, freshman outfielder James Nix connected on a deep ball to center to score West, and two batters later, Nolan Machibroda drove in Nix to add two more insurance runs for the Patriots and secure the win.

As a team, Patriot hitters recorded eight total hits on the day. West finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a RBI, while Machibroda continued his strong performance offensively, going 2-for-4 with a RBI. 

Four CF pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts in nine innings. Freshman Jeremy Goins came in relief for starter Codie Lunday, allowing an earned run on four hits and three strikeouts to record his first win as a Patriot. Sophomore transfer right-handed pitcher Ryan Velazquez provided three strong innings of relief, not allowing a run on one hit and struck out five.

CF will return to the field on Friday when it hosts South Florida State College at 1 p.m. at Goodlett Field.
