OCALA-- The College of Central Florida baseball team rebounded from Friday's extra-inning loss to defeat Indian River State College 11-6 on Saturday afternoon in Clearwater. 

Right-handed pitcher David Mata, a transfer from Bethune-Cookman University, surrendered a RBI single in the first inning before settling in to retire 13 of 14 batters faced. Mata went 4.1 innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits and struck out five.

Sophomore third baseman Ricky Presno kicked off the 11-run scoring affair with a RBI single to center in the bottom of the first inning. CF took a 2-1 lead after the first inning before freshman catcher Colton Vincent jump-started a six-run fourth inning with a RBI double to right field.

Indian River countered with four unearned runs in the the sixth, but the Patriots added three more insurance runs to secure the win.

Redshirt freshman James Nix went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while freshman outfielder Tariq Bacon drove in two runs to lead CF at the plate.

Five Patriot pitchers combine to allow just one earned run in the win.

CF will return to the field on Monday when it travels to Tampa to face Hillsborough Community College. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
