#CFBASEBALL FALLS TO PALM BEACH IN 10 INNINGS

OCALA-- The College of Central Florida baseball team suffered an extra-inning loss to Palm Beach State College on opening day in Lake Worth, Fla.

The Patriots held a 4-1 lead with two on and two out in the bottom of the ninth before Palm Beach's Joe Smith ripped a two-run double into right field off freshman reliever Brendan Bell to bring the Panthers to within one run, 4-3.

A batter later, PBSC's Brian Martinez scores off a throwing error from sophomore third baseman Ricky Presno to send the game to extra innings. Panthers go on to win it 5-4 off walk-off single into left field.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Eric Linder got the start on opening day, throwing an efficient six innings. Linder allowed just one run on four hits and struck out five with just 68 pitches before giving way to freshman relievers Bell and Francisco Mateo

Freshman center fielder Carlos Salaverria led the Patriots at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI, while Zach West, Christian Rivera and Nolan Machibroda each drove in a run.

CF will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Clearwater to take on Indian River State College at 4 p.m. at Jack Russell Stadium.
