OCALA-- College of Central Florida sophomore pitcher Mark Potter was named FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Pitcher of the Week for games played April 23-29.
The right-hander from Melbourne, Fla. picked up his first pitcher of the week honor after going 1-0 on the week with a 1.50 ERA. Potter allowed just one run on three hits and struck out eight in six innings of work to help lead the Patriots past Lake-Sumter State College 11-1 (8 innings) on Sunday afternoon. With the win, CF clinched the second and final state tournament spot for the Mid-Florida Conference.
Potter, a transfer from Jacksonville University, has appeared in 16 games for the Patriots and amassed a 7-5 record with a 4.14 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 74 innings pitched. He has recorded five or more strike outs in six games this season with a career-high eight strikeouts coming this past Sunday against the LakeHawks. Potter will continue his baseball and academic career at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina next year.
As for the state tournament, Potter and the Patriots will open up the 2018 FCSAA State Baseball Tournament on Friday, May 11 at 1 p.m. against Southern Conference champions Broward College. Click here for tournament details.
