OCALA-- The College of Central Florida baseball bats are red hot as the Patriots run-ruled Seminole State College 10-0 (5 innings) on Saturday afternoon in Sanford. CF improves to 15-5 in conference with four games to go and now sits alone in second place after Lake-Sumter State College defeated St. Johns River State College on Saturday.

CF (27-12-1) received a lights-out performance from newcomer Franklin Hernandez on the mound. Hernandez got his first official start for the Patriots, throwing a four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in five innings of work.

The Patriots got out to an early 2-0 lead after one complete inning before exploding for a five-run second inning thanks in part to Christian Smallwood's three-run homer. That home run was Smallwood's state-leading 14th home run of the season.

An inning later, Hunter Bowling, Yorvis Torrealba and Ricky Presno combined for back-to-back-to-back homers to solidify the run-rule.

The Patriot offense recorded 12 home runs on the week, bringing their program-best total to 76 homers on the year. CF ranks first in the state and No. 2 in the nation in this category.

On the day, Smallwood finished 1-for-1 with four RBI, Torrealba went 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, Presno finished 2-for-3, RBI, three runs scored, and Bowling went 1-for-2, RBI.

The Patriots return to action on Monday when they host Florida State College at Jacksonville for the last home game of the 2018 season. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
