OCALA--The College of Central Florida baseball team picked up its 12th conference win with a 4-1 win over Lake-Sumter State College on a rainy Monday afternoon in Ocala. CF is now 24-12-1 on the season, 12-5 in conference.
The LakeHawks got on the board first with a solo homer to right field in the top of the third, but the Patriots responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead and never look back.
Patriot pitchers combined for a three-hitter in the win, with starter Austin Nickle giving up just one run on two hits and striking out five in four innings of work before giving way to Josh Harper, Casey Lawson, Jack Hartman and Franklin Hernandez.
Harper allowed just one hit in 2.1 innings with two strike outs for his fourth win of the season. Hernandez threw an inning of scoreless relief in the ninth to pick up his third save of the year.
CF will close out the three-game series on Wednesday when it travels to Leesburg for a 3 p.m. start.
