OCALA-- College of Central Florida first baseman Christian Smallwood blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to to jump-start a Patriot rally and bring CF to within two runs, but CF fell short falling 10-8 to Santa Fe College on Saturday afternoon at Goodlett Field. With the loss, CF falls to 19-10-1 overall, 8-4 in conference, as the Saints sweep the Patriots in the three-game series.

CF fell behind 7-1 in the fifth inning, but began inching back into it, closing the gap to 7-5 after seven innings. A fielder's choice in the eighth and two hit-by-pitches with bases loaded gave the Saints a 10-5 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.

CF's Smallwood hit the clutch three-run homer to bring the Patriots to within two, but SF got Marcus Judd to pop out to leave Blake Marabell stranded at third and thwart a Patriot comeback.

Smallwood finished the game 2-for-5 with four RBI, while Yorvis Torrealba, John Fiorenza, Marcus Judd, and Tanner May each drove in a run.

The Patriots now fall two games behind Sante Fe and St. John's River State College in the conference standings.

CF will start its three-game series with St. Johns on Monday when they welcome the Vikings to Goodlett Field for a 3 p.m. start.
