OCALA-- The College of Central Florida baseball team increases its win streak to 10 after run-ruling Florida State College at Jacksonville 12-4 in eight innings. With the win, CF now sits atop the Mid-Florida Conference at 8-0.
The Patriots went yard four times in the win, getting homers from David Flores, Christian Smallwood, Tanner May and Blake Marabell.
CF plated a run in the second, third and fourth innings before exploding for a six-run fifth inning in which the Patriots got back-to-back homers from May (three run) and Flores (solo), and a double from Yorvis Torrealba. Smallwood added an insurance run with a solo homer in the sixth and Marabell completed the run-rule with a two run double in the eighth.
Marabell (2-for-4) and May (1-for-4) finished the day with three RBI each, while Smallwood (2-for-3) and Torrealba (1-for-4) each drove in two runs.
On the mound, Austin Nickle (3-0) didn't allow an earned run on three hits and struck out two in five innings for the win. Josh Harper came in to record his first save of the year, allowing just two runs on four hits and struck out four in three innings of work.
CF will go for the sweep tomorrow when they travel to FSCJ for a 1 p.m. start.
