OCALA--The College of Central Florida baseball team rallied to defeat South Florida State College 12-7 in the home opener on Friday afternoon at Goodlett Field.

CF (4-1) found themselves down 5-1 after the first inning. Solo homers from Chris Tidwell and Yorvis Torrealba in the second and third innings cut the Panther lead to two, before breaking open the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs.

Shortstop Tanner May grounded into a fielder's choice in the bottom of the fourth to score Jack Hartman and Marcus Judd to bring the Patriots to within one run. A batter later, Luis Medina singled in Torrealba and May to give CF their first lead of the game, 7-6.

SFSC countered with a run of their own in the top half of the fifth before the Patriots scored four unanswered runs, including a three-run seventh inning to secure the win.

Luis Medina, who ranks top in the state in RBIs (11) and home runs (3), continued his dominance at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI. Tanner May (2-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored), Yorvis Torrealba (2-for-3, HR, 3 runs scored) and Chris Tidwell (HR, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored) also had big days at the plate.

Austin Nickle came in to throw four scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit, to get the win.

CF will be back in action on Saturday when they host NJCAA No. 15 Palm Beach State College at 1 p.m.
