OCALA--The CF baseball team split a pair with Indian River State College on Saturday afternoon in Fort Pierce. The Patriots took game one 6-1 before falling 11-7 in game two. 

CF (2-1) put up four runs in the first inning of game one with back-to-back homers from David Flores (3-run HR) and Christian Smallwood (solo HR) to put CF ahead for good. 

LHP Hunter Bowling excelled in his debut, throwing three scoreless innings and striking out five for the win. Sophomore transfer Austin Nickle made his first relief appearance as a Patriot, allowing just one run on five hits and struck out six in four innings of work.

Bowling and Nickle combined for 11 strike outs in game one.

Flores (1-for-2, runs scored) led the offensive charge with three RBIs, while Tanner May (2-for-4, 2 runs scored), Luis Medina (2-for-4, RBI), Smallwood (1-for-3, RBI), Zach West (1-for-3, RBI), and Matt Moclair (2-for-3) were also key contributors at the plate.

In game two, the Patriots out hit Indian River 10-8, but costly errors hurt CF.

Medina (1-for-4, 2 RBI) blasted his second homer of the year, while Ricky Presno (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored), Jack Hartman (1-for-1, 2 RBI), and May (2-for-3, run scored) also provided offense in the loss.

CF heads to Hillsborough Community College on Monday for a 3 p.m. start. The Patriots will have their home opener on Friday when they host South Florida State College at 1 p.m.
