OCALA-- College of Central Florida pitcher Jackson Stoeckinger was drafted in the 12th round by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday afternoon on day three of the 2017 MLB Draft.
The 6-foot-3 lefty from Harrodsburg, Ky. is the second Patriot pitcher to be taken in this year's draft. Teammate Nate Pearson was drafted 28th overall by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Stoeckinger returned to the Patriot pitching rotation this season after season-ending Tommy John surgery a year ago. He has appeared in 11 games, starting 10, throughout his CF career and has struck out 42 in 38 2/3 innings of work.
The University of Kentucky committ had a career-best outing against Pasco-Hernando on March 31, throwing 6 shutout innings and striking out 5 in the win. Against conference rival St. Johns River State College this past April, Stoeckinger struck out a career-high nine.
