Patriots can't overcome 3rd inning, fall to Vikings

OCALA--College of Central Florida baseball team dropped game three of the three-game series with St. Johns River State College on Monday night in Palatka.

The SJR Vikings (12-3) capitalized on three fielding errors in the bottom of the third inning to plate all four of their runs in route to 4-1 win over the Patriots. With the win, SJR swept the series to improve to 12-3 in conference play, while CF falls to 4-11.

CF out-hit the Vikings 9-4, but left nine runners in scoring position. Second baseman Steven Lugo (2-for-3) scored the only run of the night, driving a solo home run over the left field wall.

CF starting pitcher Nate Pearson didn't allow an earned run on four hits and struck out nine in five innings of work. Ryan Aspinwall came in to throw three, scoreless innings of relief, not allowing a hit and striking out seven in the loss.

CF will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Thomas University JV for a doubleheader starting at Noon.
