Daytona rallies past Patriots, Pearson K's 15

OCALA--College of Central Florida baseball team couldn't hold on against conference rival Daytona State College on Wednesday afternoon at Goodlett Field.

The Patriots and Falcons entered the ninth inning all tied up at 2-2. CF's Jacob Grenus came in relief in the top half of the inning, relinquishing two runs. The Patriot offense couldn't respond falling 4-2 in the Mid-Florida Conference opener.

CF right-hander Nate Pearson struck out a season-high 15 in eight innings of work. He allowed just two runs and scattered three hits before giving way to Grenus.

CF was down 1-0 after the Falcons scored one run in the first inning off a passed ball. Vincent Addona responded with a solo homer in the bottom of the second inning to tie things up for the Patriots.

In the sixth inning, Will Reddick doubled in Christian Smallwood to pull CF ahead 2-1. The Patriots would go on to load the bases and have a chance to increase their lead, but DSC's Gage Hutchinson was able to get Ricardo Jimenez to hit into a fielder's choice to get out of the jam.

Reddick led the Patriots at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI while Addona (1-for-3, RBI, RS) and Luis Medina (2-for-4) backed him at the plate.

CF will head to Daytona on Friday for Game 2 of the conference series. They will return home on Saturday for Game 3 at 1 p.m.
