Baseball defeats South Florida, Pearson K's 11

OCALA--The College of Central Florida baseball team picked up a win against South Florida State College on Friday afternoon at Goodlett Field.

The Patriots' bats came alive in the second and third innings, while capitalizing on the Panthers' four errors, en rout to a 9-3 win. On the mound, LSU signee Nate Pearson struck out a team-high 11 batters.

CF struck first in the bottom of the second inning. Blake Marabell started off the inning with a lead-off single  up the middle. Two batters later, Luis Media singled to center field to drive in the first run of the game and set up Vincent Adonna with runners on second and third. Adonna  laid down a bunt to SFSC pitcher Riley Degnan. Degnan turned to first base for the easy out, but instead threw the ball away, allowing Adonna to round the bases and put CF up 4-0.

The Patriots would go on to add three more runs in the third inning and two more insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

Pearson kept the Panther offense at bay, allowing just two runs on eight hits in six innings of work. Fellow Florida International University transfer Richie Cruz came in and shut the door holding SFSC to just 2 hits and struck out four in the bottom three innings.

At the plate, Adonna went 2-for-2 with 4 RBIs, while Will Reddick, Ricardo Jimenez and Medina each scored two runs.

CF will head on the road to face Palm Beach State College on Saturday. Doubleheader action will take place at Noon and 2 p.m.
