OCALA--The College of Central Florida baseball team got the jump-start it needed, powering past Webber University JV in six innings on Wednesday afternoon at Goodlett Field.
The Patriot offense was rolling in the first two innings, plating 16 runs en rout to a 20-2 final over the Warriors. As a team, CF recorded 17 hits while holding Webber to just three hits.
Freshman Matt Moclair led off the first inning with a solo home run to left field. Two batters later, Blake Marabell capitalized on a misread by the center fielder for a three-run, in-the-park home run. Will Reddick (triple) and Vinny Adonna (double) crossed home plate to complete the six-run inning.
CF added an additional 10 runs in the second and two more in the third and fourth innings.
Marabell led CF at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, three runs scored and a home run. Other key contributors include: Christian Smallwood (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored), Luis Medina (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 3 runs scored), and Moclair (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, HR).
On the mound, freshman Josh Harper needed just nine pitches to retire the side in the top of fifth to secure his first win as a Patriot. Harper didn't allow a hit or run in the inning.
The Patriots will be back in action on Friday when they host South Florida State College at 1 p.m
