OCALA-- The College of Central Florida baseball team will have its shot at making the Region 8 Tournament.
The Patriots (30-16, 13-10) clinched the third-place spot from the Mid-Florida Conference with a 10-0 win in seven innings over Lake-Sumter State College.
CF will face Miami Dade College, the third-place team from the Southern Conference, on May 2 at Polk State College. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. The winner of this playoff match will advance to the 2016 FCSAA State Baseball Tournament May 15-20 in Lakeland, Fla.
With the win, the Patriots won for the 10th time in 11 conference games and rebounded from a 3-9 start in the MFC.
The Patriots also swept the season series with Lake-Sumter.
John Cassala hit two homers and added a double on a six-RBI afternoon to lead CF at the plate. Evan Holland had two hits, including a homer run, while Ryan Knowles and Kevin Gomez also finished with two hits.
CF's David Lebron went five innings and allowed just two hits and struck out six to get the win.
CF closes out its regular season with a home game against Daytona State on Friday afternoon at 1. The Patriots will honor all sophomores with a small ceremony prior to the start of the game.
