OCALA--Cooper Wallace has been a huge reason why the College of Central Florida baseball team is on the brink of having the opportunity to make the Region 8 Tournament.
Wallace has won five straight decisions in Mid-Florida Conference play for the Patriots and coaches across the state have taken notice.
For his strong efforts this past week, Wallace has been named the FCSAA Region 8 Pitcher of the Week.
He was 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA during the voting period, which included a seven inning effort where he allowed one hit in a win over NJCAA No. 1 Santa Fe College.
From there, he struck out 12 in eight innings to help CF push Florida State College at Jacksonville towards elimination for the third place spot in the MFC.
Wallace is 9-2 on the season, tied for most wins in the state with Daytona State College's Gage Hutchinson. He is also Top 3 in the state for most strikeouts (82).
He is one of the sophomores who will be honored Friday afternoon prior to CF's regular season finale against Daytona State.
First pitch is set for 1 p.m, with the ceremony taking place before the game.
Wallace joins David Lebron as CF pitchers to win Region 8 Pitcher of the Week during the conference season.
