Patriots shut out Daytona State, Lebron K's 11

OCALA--David Lebron continued to pitch on another level from the rest of Region 8.

Lebron, the reigning FCSAA Pitcher of the Week, tossed eight scoreless innings and struck out 11 to lead the College of Central Florida baseball team past Daytona State College 7-0 on Wednesday afternooon.

For Lebron, he extended his scoreless streak to 24 1/3 innings.

Last week, he struck out 12 in a 5-0 win over Lake Sumter State during a 6 2/3 inning stint.

Lebron has struck out 30 batters over his last 21 1/3 innings.

His effort helped CF win its fourth straight conference game and move into third place in the Mid-Florida Conference standings.

CF (26-18, 8-9) scored four times in the second innings and went on to shutout the Falcons for the second time in a row.

The Patriots have registered shutouts in three of their last four games.

Kevin Gomez had his biggest game of the year, as he knocked in five runs, aided by a three-run home run in the second inning.

Connor Crile also homered for CF in the victory.

The Patriots visit Daytona State on Friday to close out the three-game series.

The top two teams in the MFC clinch automatic bids to the state tournament, while the third place team will compete in a wildcard playoff for a bid to the tournament.
