Heyer named FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week

OCALA--The College of Central Florida baseball team is on a hot streak and one of the biggest reasons why is the play of Luke Heyer.

Coaches across the state took notice of the sophomore's strong play and voted him NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Week.

During the voting period, Heyer hit .556, as he went 10-for-18 at the plate.

In helping CF improve its record to 15-6, Heyer smashed two home runs and knocked in 10 runs.

Heyer had three straight games of at least three hits, including a pair of outings against State College of Florida-Manatee.

Heyer also had three hits and a homer and four RBI in the CF's 20-19 win over South Georgia State.

The effort by Heyer helped the Patriots pull out consecutive walk-off wins over SGSC, followed by a third straight one-run victory in a triumph over Florida Southwestern.

Heyer and CF then pounded Jackson College by a combined score of 27-1 in a doubleheader sweep on Monday.

The Patriots open up Mid-Florida Conference play on Wednesday afternoon at 3 on the road against rival Santa Fe.

CF's regular season conference home opener is Friday against SFC at 3 p.m.
