Baseball rolls past Florida Southwestern State

OCALA--The College of Central Florida baseball team rolled to a 12-7 win over Florida Southwestern State College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Patriots (3-0) pounded out 12 hits and got a combined 10 strikeouts in six innings of relief from Robby Frantzis and Kyle Lugar.

Frantzis fanned six and earned the win in 3 2/3 innings, while Lugar tossed the final 2 1/3 for the save.

At the plate, Evan Holland (4-for-5, two runs scored, two RBI, home run), Luke Heyer (2-for-4, two runs scored, RBI, home run, double), John Cassala (1-for-4, run scored, RBI), Connor Crile (1-for-4, run scored, two RBI), Kyle Jenkins (1-for-4, two RBI, double), BJ Harmon (2-for-4, two runs scored) and Dalton Mauldin (2-for-5, three runs scored) led the way for CF.

The Patriots scored six runs in the third inning, but saw FSW got to within 8-6.

From there, the Patriots added a single run in the sixth and three in the eighth inning to pull away.

CF has its home opener on Friday afternoon at 3p.m. against South Florida State. They will then return to Goodlett Field on Saturday for a doubleheader versus Palm Beach State College.
