LEESBURG- The College of Central Florida baseball team broke open a tight one-run game with Lake Sumter State by scoring four runs in the top of the ninth to go on to win 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
CF (23-13, 8-3) got a stellar start from David Lebron (6-2), who allowed one earned run on six hits over 8 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out eight.
Zach Whitaker tossed the final 1/3 inning for his second save of the year.
Christian Khawam (2-for-4, two runs scored), Justin Ambrosino (2-for-3, run scored, RBI), Colby Brown (1-for-5, RBI), Luke Heyer (2-for-5, run scored, two RBI), Malik Tatis (2-for-4), Dalton Mauldin (1-for-3, two runs scored) led the way for the Patriots at the plate.
After CF scored four times in the top of the ninth, the LakeHawks scored twice in the bottom of the frame, before Whitaker shut the door.
CF returns to action on Friday when it hosts Lake Sumter State at 3 p.m.
