OCALA- The College of Central Florida baseball team earned a 7-2 road win over conference rival FSC-Jacksonville on Monday afternoon.
With the win, CF improved to 18-11 overall and 4-3 in Mid-Florida Conference play.
Zach Whitaker shut down the Blue Wave and earned the win for CF. Whitaker needed 105 pitches, 71 for strikes, during his seven inning stint on the mound.
Overall, Whitaker allowed two runs on nine hits, but he didn't walk a batter and struck out two.
CF staked Whitaker to a 3-0 lead through six innings, before the Blue Wave got to within 4-2 after eight.
From there, the Patriots put the game away with three runs in the top of the ninth. Nick Mira smashed three doubles and knocked in two runs to lead the Patriots at the plate.
Ryan Crile (1-for-5, double, RBI), Luke Heyer (1-for-2, run scored), Colby Brown (2-for-4, run scored), Malik Tatis (1-for-4, run scored, RBI), Ben Ellzey (2-for-4, two runs scored, RBI) and Andrew Frazier (1-for-3, run scored, RBI) also had strong games at the plate for CF.
The Patriots, winners of two straight over the Blue Wave, will host FSC-J to conclude the three-game set on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
