CF Baseball routs NJCAA No. 2 St. Johns River

OCALA-The College of Central Florida baseball team got a superb outing from Zach Whitaker and knocked off defending conference champion St. Johns River 6-1 on Monday afternoon at Goodlett Field.

CF (16-10, 2-2) saw Whitaker allow one run on four hits in seven innings of work. He walked three and struck out two, before giving way to Hunter Halsey, who tossed two innings of scoreless relief.

The Patriots never trailed on their way to evening the record in the Mid-Florida Conference.

CF scored two runs in the first, third and eighth innings to hold off the Vikings.

Whitaker closed his outing with five scoreless innings for the Patriots.

He got plenty of backing at the plate, as CF snapped a two-game losing streak in MFC play.

Ryan Crile (run scored), Christian Khawam (3-for-4, two runs scored, RBI, two doubles), Justin Ambrosino (2-for-4, run scored, RBI, double), Luke Heyer (2-for-4, two RBI, double), Andrew Frazier (2-for-4, RBI) and Nick Mira (1-for-5, run scored) led CF at the plate.

The Patriots host Lincoln Land (Ill.) on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. From there, CF will visit St. Johns River on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
