Baseball rally thwarted by St. Pete, falls 7-5

OCALA-The College of Central Florida baseball team was unable to battle back all the way against St. Petersburg College on Monday afternoon at Goodlett Field.

The Patriots fell behind by five runs, before closing to within in the bottom of the eighth, but wound up falling 7-5 to the Titans.

Ryan Crile (1-for-5, run scored), Christian Khawam (1-for-3, run scored, two RBI, home run), Ben Ellzey (3-for-3), Justin Ambrosino (1-for-4), Luke Heyer (1-for-4, run scored, RBI, home run) paced CF at the plate.

For five inning the game was scoreless, but SPC jumped to a 2-0 in the top of the sixth.

From there, CF cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the frame, however, the Titans answered with four runs in top of the seventh and led 6-1.

After the Patriots got one run back in the seventh, they closed to within 6-5 in the eighth.

SPC scored once in the top of the ninth and held on.

The loss evened the season series between CF and SPC to 1-1.

Earlier this season, the Patriots won 9-6 over SPC on the road. At the time, the Titans were ranked No. 1 in the state at the time of the previous matchup.
