OCALA- The College of Central Florida baseball team used a complete game victory from Zach Whitaker to salvage a split against Eastern Florida State on Saturday afternoon.
Whitaker took a shutout into the seventh inning and helped the Patriots hold on for a 4-2 win over the Titans at Goodlett Field.
In going the distance, Whitaker allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings (doubleheaders last seven innings at the JUCO level, regular games go nine). He walked just one and struck out five.
Backing Whitaker at the plate in the win were Justin Ambrosino (2-for-4, two RBI), Christian Khawam (1-for-3, run scored, RBI, double), Bryan Mejia (2-for-3), Ryan Crile (1-for-3, two runs scored, double), Dalton Mauldin (1-for-2, run scored) led CF at the plate in the win.
Earlier, CF fell 7-1 to the Titans.
CF will turn its attention to St. Petersburg College on Monday afternoon at home. First pitch is at 3 p.m. The Patriots knocked off the Titans on the road when SPC was ranked No. 1 in the state earlier this season.
