TAMPA- The College of Central Florida baseball dug itself too deep of a hole on Wednesday afternoon against Hillsborough Community College.
The Patriots (2-2) fell behind 10-1 after four innings and went on to a 10-6 defeat at the hands of the Hawks.
Malik Tatis had a big day for CF in the loss, by going 4-for-4 with one run scored. Over the last two games, Tatis is 7-for-9 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Ryan Crile (2-for-5, RBI), Justin Ambrosino (2-for-4, run scored), Colby Brown (1-for-2, run scored), Ben Ellzey (1-for-3), Dalton Mauldin (two runs scored), Andrew Frazier (2-for-4, run scored, two RBI) and Garrett Wright (1-for-3, RBI) also contributed for the Patriots.
Crile is now 7-for-10 over the past two games for CF. The UCF signee came off a 5-for-5 effort in last Saturday's win over Indian River State in the second game of the doubleheader.
CF, though, left 12 runners on base and grounded into two double plays in the loss.
On the mound, Zach Whitaker took the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits in 2 2/3 innings of work.
The Patriots scored three times in the eighth and twice more in the ninth inning, but couldn't complete the comeback against HCC.
CF will now turn its attention to its regular season home opener on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. against South Florida State at Goodlett Field.
