The College of Central Florida baseball team is headed to the FCSAA State Baseball Tournament.
Josh Ellzey pushed home Connor Crile with a bunt down the first base side with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the Patriots to a 3-2 walk-off win over Daytona State on Wednesday afternoon at Goodlett Field.
Connor Crile and Robby Jolley opened the 10th inning with singles, before David Lugo grounded into a fielder's choice. From there, Ellzey was able to plate the winning run and let the Patriots celebrate their first trip to the state tournament in two years.
CF's win eliminated Seminole State from contention for one of the Mid-Florida Conference's two automatic bids to the state tournament. The Raiders stayed alive earlier on Wednesday with a 6-5 walk-off win at home over Lake Sumter in 10 innings, but the Patriots did their part to secure their trip to Lakeland.
Khawam finished the season 8-for-16 with four runs scored against DSC and came through with his team-high 10th multi-hit game in conference play. Woody, meanwhile, increased his RBI total to seven against DSC in four games this season.
Connor Crile's leadoff hit in the 10th marked the ninth time in his last 10 games where he has reached safely with a hit.
On the mound, Boomer Biegalski gave his team a chance to win once again. The freshman struck out 10 in six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. In two starts this season against DSC, Biegalski allowed just five earned runs on 14 hits in 13 innings of work. He struck out 18 in his two starts and walked just four.
Biegalski wasn't the only CF pitcher to have a big day.
Kenny McDonald came up with his best performance as a Patriot, tossing four innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. McDonald allowed just two hits and didn't walk a batter during his stint, and struck out three.
CF won the season series 3-1 with the Falcons and won its second game in a row overall.
The Patriots will host Santa Fe for Sophomore Day on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. CF is now 18-8 at home this season, aided by a 9-2 mark in MFC play.
CF will face the first place team from the Panhandle Conference in the first round of the 2014 FCSAA Baseball State Tournament. First pitch will be at 7 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla. at Joker Marchant Stadium.
