Patriots down Santa Fe, Smith one win from No. 600

Ocala, FL-- A huge seventh inning has College of Central Florida baseball coach Marty Smith one win away from 600 career victories.

After seeing Santa Fe College score twice to tie the score in the top of the seventh, the Patriots scored five times in the bottom half of the frame and rode the momentum to a 9-4 win on Friday afternoon at Goodlett Field.

The Patriots started things off with two runs in the first, before pushing their lead to four.

The Saints (20-16. 8-9), losers of five straight games, battled back to tie things up, plating two in the sixth and seventh.

To the bottom of the seventh we went.

Christian Khawam's double in the bottom of the seventh scored Ryan Crile with the go-ahead run for CF. Ryan Smith added an RBI double, while Collin Woody and Colby Brown also contributed run-scoring hits for the Patriots to put them up for good.

Mike Cetta (6-4) went seven innings to get the win for the Patriots. Ricky Page and Kenny McDonald each threw a scoreless inning of relief to close out the Saints for CF.

CF (27-14, 12-5) remains right on the heels of St. Johns River State for first-place in the Mid-Florida Conference.

The Patriots will try to go for the sweep tomorrow at Santa Fe. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
