Ocala, FL-- Former College of Central Florida baseball standout Casey Smit has been named the ACC Player of the Week.
Now at Florida State University, the shortstop stepped in with starting shortstop Justin Gonzalez slowed by illness and led the Seminoles to a 4-0 week that included a three-game ACC series sweep of Notre Dame.
The Alonso High product went 8-for-17 on the week (.471) while driving in nine runs.
Smit's biggest performance came in a 12-inning Friday night win over the Fighting Irish. The Tampa native drove in a career-high four runs in a performance that included the game-winning walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th and a two-run home run in the third, his first collegiate home run.
The senior drove in at least two runs in three of Florida State's four games and registered the go-ahead base hit in three of the Seminoles' wins.
