Ocala, FL-- The College of Central Florida baseball team earned a much-needed 3-2 win over St. Johns River State on Friday afternoon at Goodlett Field and in the meantime saw its stopper on the mound emerge even more.
Boomer Biegalski, the reigning FCSAA Pitcher of the Week after a 13-strikeout performance last week against FSC-Jacksonville, retired 21 straight and took a one-hitter into the ninth inning.
SJRSC, which scored a combined 25 runs in two wins over CF earlier this week, were able to send the game into extra innings, thanks to a walk, sacrifice bunt and an error, but the Patriots (18-11, 3-3) were able to make the plays when they needed to.
After the Vikings went ahead 2-1 in the top half of the 10th, CF was able to score twice in the take the win.
The Vikings recorded the second out of the frame, but Ben Ellzey walked with the bases loaded to force in Velasquez with the game-winning run.
Brown and N.J. Williamson led CF with three hits each, while Velasquez, Smith and Connor Crile added two hits each.
The Patriots, who finished with 13 hits in the win, left 13 runners on base during the game.
Biegalski went nine innings and walked just one, along with nine strikeouts and allowed just a second-inning single by Will Mackenzie.
Collin Woody pitched the 10th inning for the Patriots and improved to 2-0 on the season.
Brad Torres (4-1), the fourth pitcher for SJRSC, took the loss. The Vikings (18-9, 2-1) recorded 10 strikeouts as a staff, but were unable to get much going against Biegalski.
