OCALA--It was a tremendous year both on and off the playing arenas for the College of Central Florida.
CF's athletic teams were not only among the best in terms of overall winning percentage in Region 8, but also had the school's best-ever performance in the classroom in terms of overall grade-point average.
A pair of student-athletes who were at the forefront of the program's success in both areas were honored recently by the FCSAA.
Thais Oliveira and Iseoluwapo Jegede were named FCSAA Academic Athletes of the Year.
Both Oliveira and Jegede earned state awards for women's and men's basketball respectively already, but the FCSAA honor includes all sports.
It marks the first time in school history that CF swept both state and basketball awards for academic honors.
During the fall semester, both Oliveira and Jegede achieved perfect 4.0 grade-point averages to help CF finish with a 3.11 overall GPA.
The duo was part of a school record 10 athletes with perfect GPAs during the fall term.
Oliveira etched her name into the record books on the court at CF, as she earned Region 8 Player of the Week on three occasions and also became the first Patriot to win NJCAA Player of the Week three times in a season.
She was named all-state as a freshman and also earned all-tournament honors.
For her efforts, Oliveira, who was also named CF's female academic athlete of the year, earned a scholarship at East Carolina University.
Jegede was a two-year standout for the CF men's basketball team.
He earned second-team all-conference honors in each of his two seasons.
At the CF awards banquet, Jegede was honored multiple times.
Jegede also took home the Dr. James Harvey Department of Athletics Achievement Award, Patriot Award for men's basketball and CF's academic athlete of the year.
